Home/Practice areas

Practice areas

Asbestos is what we are known for. Everything else we take is chosen because the same investigative method applies to it.

What we handle

A deliberately narrow practice

A firm that advertises fifty practice areas is telling you something about how it works. Ours is built around occupational and product-caused disease, where cases are won by document work and by knowing an industry's history better than the industry's own lawyers do.

Missing Funds Recovery

Unclaimed property, dormant accounts, uncashed insurance proceeds and share holdings — identified, documented and claimed on behalf of owners, heirs and estates.

Probate & Estate Administration

Grants of letters, small-estate affidavits and affidavits of heirship, opened or reopened where an estate needs to exist before a claim can be paid to the right people.

Mesothelioma & Asbestos Litigation

The core of the firm. Pleural, peritoneal and pericardial mesothelioma, asbestos lung cancer and asbestosis, filed in state and federal courts nationwide and coordinated with bankruptcy trust claims.

Product Liability

Claims against manufacturers for design defects, manufacturing defects and failure to warn. The same document-driven approach that works in asbestos cases applies to any product with a known, concealed hazard.

Talcum Powder Cancer

Cosmetic and industrial talc has been found contaminated with asbestos, and is now classified as probably carcinogenic to humans. We bring ovarian cancer and mesothelioma claims arising from long-term use.

Benzene Exposure

Benzene is a known cause of acute myeloid leukaemia and other blood cancers. Refinery, rubber, printing, painting and laboratory workers make up most of these claims.

Defective Medical Devices

Surgical mesh, hip and knee implants, and implanted cardiac devices. These cases turn on the manufacturer's own adverse-event data, which is where we start.

Workers' Compensation

Occupational disease and injury claims against employers and insurers, handled with attention to how a compensation claim interacts with a third-party product case.

Railroad Worker Injuries (FELA)

The Federal Employers Liability Act gives railroad workers a negligence claim against the carrier rather than a compensation schedule. Asbestos, silica, diesel exhaust and traumatic injury claims.

Maritime & Jones Act

Seamen, tug and barge crews, dredge workers and offshore personnel. Jones Act negligence, unseaworthiness, and maintenance and cure.

Personal Injury

Motor vehicle, commercial truck and premises liability cases involving serious or permanent injury. We take a limited number, generally for existing clients and their families.

Wrongful Death & Survival

Claims brought by an estate and by statutory beneficiaries. In most states these are two distinct actions with different damages, and both need to be pleaded properly from the start.

How a case is staffed

Whatever the practice area, the structure is the same. A trial attorney has responsibility for the file from intake to resolution. A case manager is your day-to-day contact. A medical records paralegal handles the treating providers, so you are not chasing hospitals during treatment.

Fees

All of the work above is done on a contingency fee. There is no hourly billing, no retainer and no charge for a case review. If there is no recovery there is no fee, and case costs are not passed back to you. The fee percentage is set out in writing before you sign anything, and we will walk you through it line by line.

Nationwide practice

Nine offices. Cases in all fifty states.

Asbestos cases are rarely filed where the client lives. They are filed where the exposure happened, or where the defendant can be sued. We keep offices near the courts that hear them — and we travel to clients who cannot travel to us.
